3 students in my classroom are "hunting" the sight words they own by learning them in a right-brain Kodaly-type manner using the So Simple Sightwords Program. By performing this activity prior to reading (on worksheets and take-home books), the students' stress-level decreases as they realize they "know someone at the party" when they encounter print. Both sides of the brain will be engaged to enable more confidence and better reading as the stress-level (affective filter) has been lowered. The "I CAN!" the students have affects attitude and other areas of their school lives, and is such a positive advertisement to the parents!
