Copacabana may be one of the most commercial areas of Brazil but not everyone cares about money.

Alfredo Melo runs a 'friends' bar' in Copacana. His bar is a welcome antidote to the nearby Atlantic Avenue where money rules. Only drinks that are considered part of the Brazilian culture are served and the bar has no barman. Drinkers are expected to serve themselves and pay whenever they can afford to. "I'm always in debt but I like the culture and carry on," he admits cheerfully. (ABC)
