Purdue University: Recreational Sports Center-Renovation & Expansion

Renovation and expansion started summer, 2010 on the Recreational Sports Center, which will eventually be named the Student Fitness and Wellness Center. Increased space will be used to almost triple the amount of cardio and weight training space, and provide additional basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor sports-turf and multi-purpose fields, a recreational warm water pool to supplement the cool water competition pool, a three lane walking-jogging track, a rock climbing and bouldering wall. Additionally, there will be a comprehensive Wellness Center with a demonstration kitchen, nutrition consultation and physical therapy clinic. Redesigning the space also enhances traffic flow, space and staffing efficiency, security and will modernize the buildings mechanical, HVAC and electrical systems. The RSC project includes a plan to keep some of the existing facilities open while opening six satellite locations nearby thus minimizing the disruption of services to the campus community throughout the construction phase, scheduled for completion in fall 2012.

@purduerecsports Thank you for your reply. This is a very exciting project and I wish you the very best!!! You used the term "racquetball/squash courts". You know they are NOT the same thing? Putting in a temporary backwalI in a racquetball court (20 feet wide) doesn't make it a squash court. I understand Anderson Courts has been contacted about installing "proper" squash courts. Please pursue this! Racquetball is a dying sport - Squash is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.

@gmccuen Yes, once the renovation is complete, we will have a similar number of racquetball/squash courts. Also, you are correct that that video only highlights some of the more significnat improvements to the facility and that there are many more parts of the facility that were not included in the video.
