The Research Informatics Core and the Biomedical Imaging Team at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital, in collaboration with Vectorform LLC, have created an interactive digital pathology system intended to revolutionize how physicians, pathologists and scientists interact to diagnose disease.
The Kinect Pathology Viewer integrates several Microsoft products to create an inspired user experience. The system features a touch screen and can be voice controlled to allow pathologists, physicians and scientists to visually navigate patient data and pathology reports. The system allows sharing of high-resolution microscopic images created from biopsies for pathologic review, text description of the microscopic image, patient history information and final diagnosis.
Users can create real-time visual and audio annotations, such as flagging portions of the microscopic image that seem concerning. The system is designed to support remote collaboration between physicians and revolutionize the art of pathology while enhancing scientific output.
