1927 Lister spec 11D with ricardo head, shaft drive mag etc, built 1`st week in july 1927 so just 9 months into the production of the d type which ran from october 1926 until some time around 1964.
This engine had been outside uncovered for 60 years with water going into the crankcase every time it rained due to the breather lid being rotten and in 60 years thats a lot of rain! Most people that saw the condition of the internal components thought I was mad but I like a challenge. The engine was on a parker concrete mixer and the only reason it hadn`t been scrapped in the 70`s was that the hedge that it was parked against in the 50`s had over grown it and the land owner who is a friend of mine 'dug it up' whilst clearing the site for development recently. It was used by his father to build his garage and parked up after. The engine was unbolted when discovered and the land owner explained how someone had tried to steal it 20yrs ago but couldn`t get the flywheel past the guard and got caught on the job! Amazingly the previous owner`s father who was a skilled mechanic had set the engine at tdc with the valves closed to prevent moisture entering, even though we managed to remove the piston we still had to drill the exhaust valve out of the head! If any of you are on facebook look on robert james dutton`s page to see the extent of corrosion to most internal parts, its truly unbelievable that we got this running so sweet. The mag isn`t the original but was on it when I got it and looks to have been there a very long time! the tank I have added to run the engine,it doesn`t seem to run properly with the tank in the original low position when it has to suck the fuel up. I am searching for an original tank,if I can`t locate one I will just make one. Have fun!

  • The camera on my phone which I used seems to pick up more background noise (carb suction etc) than exhaust note! If anyone knows of an original low mounted fuel tank and cast slotted silencer please let me know!
