the high heat causes them to open. In the winter they will be formed.

O.o I want some seeds! My store stopped selling last year because they "didn't sell"

My brussel sprout actually did similar... have these big leaves. i harvested yesterday. came on line to see if leaves were eatable.. thanks for sharing.

YOU NEED TO KEEP TRIMMING THEM TO STOP THEM GETTING TOO LONG, LET THEM SPROUT!
-
Do you harvest the brussel sprouts first or do you let them flower and harvest the seeds?

U sound like a legend mate! Like your humour.. Peace from Australia :)

i was eating some brussels sprouts and started wondering what the plant they grow on looks like, so i came to youtube and found this video. so, good work i guess.

@supernaturalbc2009 I've read warm temperatures will do that. They like it cool. Trying my first this year, planting out early. Soon as the soil is workable.

nice Grepeses vine. have you harvested any table grepas yet? i love eating grayps

i discovered that I like eating brussel sprout leaves a lot more than I like eating the little un-opened sprouts. I've never had my sprouts open, but that's probably because i'm in zone 5a

holy cow! i planted a whole row of brussel sprouts in my garden not knowing how tall they get. i assumed they would get about as big as my broccoli plants. what have i done?! lol they are going to come after me haha.
I recently read that if you firm the small plants in and also make sure they have well composted soil that is compact, the sprouts will stay closed tight. If the soil is sandy and loose, they open up like yours did. Not sure if it's true as I haven't got that far myself (just have seedlings right now) but it appeared to be a reputable source online.

I have native adobe soil here.. But that being said, I built raised beds, and these brussel sprouts were grown in the raised bed, in 100% compost...

@growingyourgreens Maybe needs some of that adobe mixed in? Might be worth a try.

not growing brussel sprouts right now. One of the goals is to add composted adobe soil back into all the raised beds :)

Hey! Nice video! ;)
Is this a 1 year old plant or a plant from last year?. Hehe looks like you don't have to buy seeds for the next year =D

yes, its one year old. We finally pulled it because we had to build our new raised beds.. but I will plant more.. and this time stake it up, so it grows straigher..
