I thought you'd always stay the same ...
Peter Hammill (audio only) plays here "Last Frame", accompanied by Graham Smith on violin, from the unofficial live album 'Cains Ballroom, Tulsa, Oklahoma 06-March-1979'. Originally this song was from the 1977 Van Der Graaf album 'The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome', the Van Der Graaf line-up which included Graham Smith on violin after Hugh Banton and David Jackson had left. Graham Smith was previously the violin player with the band 'String Driven Thing'. Oddly the (unofficial) album/CD cover makes no mention of Smith.

I compiled the video montage myself utilising footage mostly downloaded from YouTube, with some of my own added effects and filters.

  • I love this.

  • maybe one of the most intense PH songs. Does anyone have a version with VDG to upload?

  • There is a VDG version on their live album 'Vital' whcih you should buy. I have another version on a CD "Van der Graaf Live at Eric's Club Liverpool UK 15-5-1978", but the audience is too loud and it is not a great recording, so I've not uploaded anything from it (yet). I've been to Eric's in Liverpool and it is the smallest music venue I've ever seen, little more than the size of a cafe with the audience on top of the band. On the VDG CD the audience are very rowdy and intimidating.

  • The CD of Eric's show includes a version of 'Pioneers Over C' that I would have uploaded before now but that it's over 16 minutes long so It would have to be split into two. The beginning of "I left the Earth in 1983 ... " has the whole audience singing along in that very quiet and low-key way.
