After confirming the estimated height of the remaining alveolar bone via taking a X-Ray, you should set the stoppers onto the SLD prong as many as it requires according to the level of height of such remaining alveolar bone,.

In order for you to calculate the total number of stoppers required, you should use the following formula :
Total Number of Stoppers Required =
Height of SLD Blade (13.0 mmm) Height of Remaining Alveolar Bone

The Sequence of SLD Technique

Drilling at the high speed mode
1st Drilling of Low speed mode
1st Injecting of fluid material
2nd Drilling at the low speed mood
2nd Injecting of fluid material
Drilling at the high speed mode

By using a twist drill or SLD2.8, you should drill under the floor of the maxillary sinus at a high speed mode.
( As the elastic stopper touches the surface, you should continue to drill by removing each elastic stopper to ensure a precision drilling.)

1st Drilling of Low speed mode
Then change to the low speed mode. By slowing turning the SLD2.8 blade, complete the drilling procedure until the tip of the SLD2.8 blade touches the floor of the maxillary sinus.

(As the blade touches the intended area of the maxillary sinus, an already built-in safety rod no longer indicates the red color.)

At a low speed, repeat the drilling (2-3 turns) as you keep an eye on the indicator. You stop drilling as soon as you see the indicator lift red.
(Frequently, depending upon the elasticity of the maxillary sinus membrane, you may not see a full red).

At this stage, the safety rod only touches maxillary sinus membrane, and the SLD blade remains still inside of the remaining alveolar bone, and therefore both the SLD blade and the maxillary sinus membrane do not contact.

1st Injecting of fluid material
Fill up a syringe with fluid graft material. Then place the tip of the syringe closely into the hole. By applying pressures gently, inject the graft materials into the area.
Please remember that the hole drilled by the SLD is only as large as the diameter of the safety rod (a diameter of 1.2 mm). And therefore, any injection of graft material is executed very strongly. If injected under a strong pressure, no longer inject the graft materiai. And then go to the next step please.

2nd Drilling at the low speed mood
2nd drilling is safer. Because sinus membrane is already lifted a little.
By using the SLD2.8, you can further drill to enlarge the diameter of the hole.

Once you remove the first elastic stopper, you continue to drill at a low speed. You should continue removing the stoppers as you continue to drill.

2nd Injecting of fluid material

You inject additionally required amount of graft materials.

Make sure to use [non-fluid] transplant material By using the hydraulic effects, you can safely lift the maxillary sinus membrane. Once you use a fluid graft material to lift the membrane, we recommend you use any non-fluid transplant material as you choose.
