Although there has been debate in recent years about whether or not "The Bloody Pond" was a contemporary feature of the Shiloh battlefield at the time of the battle in 1862, it has come to be closely associated with the story of the battle in most accounts of the fighting on the southern end of the Sunken Road/Peach Orchard line (the subject of some dispute themselves). It is now one of the most visited places at the Shiloh National Military Park.
