*** At note to my regular VEDFAM viewers***
I posted a video "public" yesterday, but had uploaded it a couple of days ago as "private" and kept it private until I needed it. It seems that when you do that, it gets lumped with videos that were uploaded on that day. So if you didn't get to see yesterday's vid, check your inbox of subs. , it may be buried in your unwatched videos from a couple of days ago.

This recipe was brought to my attention by another Youtuber, thank you Graciezzz!

The website that graciezzz pm'd me about is this one:
http://forkableblog.com/?p=122
There are some great recipes on it and it has some fantastic photos of each step in the recipe (I LOVE good photos in recipe books)

1/2 cup butter
1- 8oz package of cream cheese softened (to room temperature)
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
Jam (whatever you want!)
little bit of milk
little bit of sifted powdered sugar (a.k.a. confectioner's sugar or icing sugar)

Using a mixer, cream butter, cream cheese together until light and fluffy. Add flour slowly and mix until a dough forms. You may have to do this by hand at the end because it will be too thick.

Chill dough for 15-30 minutes in fridge.

Roll out dough onto a floured surface to 1/4" thickness. Using a 2-3" cookie cutter (or edge of a drinking glass) cut out circles.

Using a pastry brush or your fingers, spread a little bit of milk on one half of the edge of each dough circle.
Place 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of jam on each circle.
Fold over one half of the circle over the jam and seal the edges by pinching them.
Place on greased or parchment covered cookie sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes at 375F until they are light brown.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

  • hmm you could put Nutella in the center as well :) it must taste delicious

  • Looking 4 a recipe for "apricot horns" from my childhood Christmas parties. They were a soft, sort of tart/savory cookie with an apricot filling. Very similar to the Kifles and Kolaches I'm finding online; however they were shaped differently. From what I recall they were more of a round shaped cut with apricot in the center and then both sides of the circle were folded over to meet sort of forming a "horn" shape. Are these the same thing??? I love these cookies and I need to make them!!

  • @Sisters4EverABNR What country are you from? My mom is Czech and made them every Christmas - only difference is she didn't fold them over - just put a dent in the center and put in the jam, baked and rolled in powder sugar immediately out of oven and then again when cooled. Same recipe - just different shape and LOTS more powder sugar! :)

  • @hummingbird0711 Actually my Czech mom made these every Christmas - she called them Kolacky (pronounced koloch-kee).

  • i made these last christmas sooooo good!!!
