The fact that one is wearing ones cycling/running wear under ones wet suit is important.
This means you are going to be cycling and running in a wet, perhaps salt water wet, skin tight wear for the rest of the race.
The triathlete that I met yesterday recommended using vaseline on the hems of you cycling pants/bib and also on the area under your armpit and at the crotch because wet skin tight lycra dipped in salt-water can rub.

What I did not realise was that triathletes wear their cycle wear under their wet suit. Triathon suits are worn underneath the wetsuit, so you just take off the wet suit at the first transition and you are ready to get on your bike. I am pretty sure that triathletes wear that same suit in their run (i.e. they are running in a padded lycra cycling suit). I have not heard of removable crotch padding. It seems to be a good idea, because I want to be well padded during the bike but unimpeded in run.
