At eight years old, Joey teaches us how to crank start his family's 1914 Model T Ford. Joey, weighing in at a whopping 56 lbs, proves that brute force is not needed to hand crank a well-maintained horseless carriage. There are no tricks, the car does not have an electric starter.

  • I assure you that there is nothing dangerous about this. Our model T is well maintained. The engine cannot kick back because the timer rod is adjusted so that, with spark lever up, the coils fire at 10 deg. ATDC. Physics don't lie; from that point, the engine can only turn in the proper direction. This car actually self-starts most of the time and my son and I had to shoot a few takes before he got the chance to show off his strength.

  • Nice one! I've seen grown men struggle with a starter handle many times let alone an eight year old - well done.
