Average dollars per screen is one of the least relevant measures of a movie. Hot Rod earned more money than Bratz and a handful of good reviews, so I'd say it was more successful.
Also, you can't judge how good (or bad) a movie is solely based on the box office. Now, granted, Hot Rod wasn't exactly Oscar material, but it wasn't bad.
There have been some great films that have had low box office, and some bad films make hundreds of millions (such as most films by Michael Bay).
Just because a movie doesn't do well in the box office doesn't mean it's completely bad. Movies are a competitive business and Hot Rod was up against some hard competition.
