While walking along Bowen Rd in Hong Kong, we spotted this huge, creepy critter.

  • all i got to say is those parents are the most stupidest, fucking idiots in the whole world. what the fuck are u doing; the dad or mom tries to touch it and there is a little kid around. did u ever think that the spider might have attacked u or even worse, the kid? i swear to god some people are so god dam stupid at times.

  • Did it ever occur to you that we used a zoom lense on the video camera and the kids were 15 feet away? These spiders are very common in HK and we've seen hundreds like them in the last 12 years. I've even run right into their webs by accident when running on trails and they are quite harmless.

You're absolutely right - those HK golden orb weavers are harmless. Big and scary-looking, but harmless. I dodged a few when I hiked around Lamma Island with my wife and some friends. I love the comment from PKmonkey300. His communication skills have shown who is "most stupidest" on this post. :)

Actually, there are THOUSANDS of the spiders around in Hong Kong I was there last summer, and on a 5km walk in the hills we saw around 75 of these (and those are just the ones we noticed). I'm pretty sure they're harmless but I'm not positive

  • lol

  • KILL IT WITH FIRE!

  • @PKmonkey300 They are not poisonous and do not bother humans -- still, the creep me out!

  • looks like a nephila... nice..

their webs are strong enough to withstand windstorms and capture birds. pretty crazy

  • id get a gun and BOOM

  • its poisonous but not very agressive in FLORIDA I still dont recomend on picking them up

  • Yellow, maybe, but black, no. I didn't see any colours other than black/brown on that spider.

  • I think it's a giant wood spider, or 'nephila maculata' as some might say.
