about 11.30am on the 10th of march'09 a huge sandstorm ate Riyadh city, the capital of Saudi Arabia, the whole scene is movie like even when I was standing there. it was sudden and most likely caused by a tornado north-west of the city according to reports.
minutes afterwards the whole city was covered and some parking lots seemed like scenes from "Silent hill" or "Resident Evil" movies.... seriously gave me a frightening yet anxious feeling

  • When these sand storms hit don't it mess up your cars paint job and so on?

  • @Midnightryder7 well, it would if you're not careful enough.. maintenance should be done right after the sand-storm.

and if the wind is over a certain speed or if your car is in an open area it could mess up the paint job.

but mostly its the air-filters you should be worried about.

other than danger of the visibility dropping down to not more than 2 meters in best cases, its not that much of bad situation if handled correctly.. you don't expect to drive in such condition and not hit something

  • how long did it take for the dust storm to pass?

  • @littpleapple about a day or two for the visibility to go back close to normal

and a week or so for the effect to go away, sickness and dust that was left

  • I lived there and in Kuwait city for years. These same dust storms cover Kuwait city for 4 to 6 weeks at a time during the Monsoon season in India which is across the the Persian Gulf. The rain and winds are so strong, last for so long, that it stirs up these dust storms in the deserts. A lot of ppl there have enphysemal, asthma and die from it.

    Nice vid, thanx

  • ppl like you are the reason why i want to upload more videos :) glad you liked it.
