Rainbow Gathering Forest Fire 2008 Mandatory Evacuation

We entered the Rainbow Gathering on July 7th.. most of the family had left by this time and those who hadn't were packing up, except for the clean up crew. At the final turn into the gathering we were informed that the event was under a MANDATORY EVACUATION due to a raging forest fire ... that no one could see.

Actually there are still volunteers from the rainbow family cleaning up the site as we speak. We have gotten positive letters from the forest service every other year for our clean up and nothing will change this year. The fires were never actually anywhere near any of the rainbow family members camp fires. In fact the fires were arson fires, please dont spread this misinformation.

We dont know who started these arson fires but most likely it would be somebody who hates the rainbow family.

I ran to the fire with fresh water for all headed there that would keep that fire from getting worse. All told, there were about 100 of us running up and over mtns to get there, finding 20 more already getting it controlled with the help of Heli's. Just as we assembled the bucket brigade, we were threatened with tazing if we did not leave that area NOW!

The fire was weird. It was set. I got lost trying to find the Gathering afterward, It was that far away from the Gathering!

I actually got a little scared that I would not find anyone and have to spend the night on the mountainside. Wyoming seemed to do everything they could to make it bad. I make a joke about Wy. There are two jobs there, road construction and ranchers....since we went there, there is now a new jobforce. LEO of the forests.

This is terribly sad. I grew up in the Tongass National Forest. The FS loved and respected us and we loved and respected them. What happened to turn them into the enemy?

What you guy's don't know these guys infested Pinedale, non of them worked, most were on foodstamps and stood outside stores and begged. Why don't they want to work for a living instead of leeching off the rest of us?
