  • @1776independent I never understood why everyone said Carter was our worst president, while Regan was the best. When it comes to energy independence, I believe Carter was a much better man for the job than Regan.

As for now, none of the GOP presidential candidates seem to address the problems of peak oil, the exception being Ron Paul. Newt Gingrich thinks he can drill his way out of it. Obama thinks having a conflict with Iran will help keep the people busy.

  • Wow, Peak Oil being discussed in 1979. I never knew.

  • @HollyTNUSA You do realize that we drilled over1/2 million new oil rigs in the 70's, right? If you honestly believe that tree huggers stopped the production of a mineral which supports our population and keeps much of the population alive, you have some serious issues.

  • AMAZING

  • @Tribute2the80s RIGHT ON

  • @HollyTNUSA Um...no. It was because of the laws of physics.

  • We went down in oil production because of the EPA and the TREEHUGGERS!

  • @anglitoestebancito Yes, Obama will wave his wand, and all our problems will disappear. If we vote for who he wants.

  • It is too bad that when the time came for us to listen to our president about this, Jimmy Carter was the mouthpiece. Looking back on what he said in his 1979 address to the nation, he was right on. Unfortunately, he lacked the communication skills to convince us. What followed was a resumption of the group trance. We stayed there for 29 years, snapped out of it as oil hit $140/bbl. Did we really get about a solution? Not really. Feels to me like we're falling asleep again. Too few get it.
