I can remember from my perch on top the water tower at Kibbutz Gal'ed a sea lit by the setting sun. It was only 13 miles distant (20 km.). Call a spade a spade. BTW, the ppl you mentioned that were murderers ... non were Jewish. Look it up on the net and try to get reliable sources. Stories like this have happened before where officers in the army chose to commit crimes or even murder others, in order to get out of having to serve in a war zone.
