TEK of Smif-N-Wessun sat down with WeLiveThis.com ( http://www.welivethis.com ) for a three part interview before recording "Grind With Me" for his upcoming solo album, "24Kt Smoke".
In the first part of the interview, TEK discusses with Charley Brown of WeLiveThis.com as to how Smif-N-Wessun was established, the making of Dah Shinin', and why the Rawkus album was never released.
TEK speaks on the history behind Smif-N-Wessun, from the battles in school to his role in Steele's group M.O.S.T. prior to the birth of Smif-N-Wessun. When discussing Dah Shinin', TEK reveals that Bucktown wasn't actually intended for Smif-N-Wessun, but actually Blackmoon or Heltah Skeltah. He also talks about why Nothin' Move But The Money was not included on Dah Shinin'.
He then goes on to discuss the politics surrounding the Rawkus album that never dropped. TEK also talks about the meaning behind Cocoa Brovaz, and how that was originally the duo's first name.
Check out a snippet of TEK's "New Love", which will be featured on his upcoming solo album, "24Kt Smoke"
The beat playing in the background during the interview is from "Grind With Me", a track off "24Kt Smoke" produced by S-Type.
