Scoliosis Diagnosis & Back Brace - Isabelle's Journey

After a scoliosis diagnosis, Isabelle was told she had to wear a back brace to prevent it from progressing. Then, using the non-invasive Scolioscore test from DePuy, her doctors determined that the condition was non-progressive and took her out of the scoliosis brace.

Sometimes you just want to give up and forget it ever happened. I found out last April my first ever X-ray showed it was 58 degrees It managed to get up to 81 degrees when we had a check up in November, My surgery will be this month and i dont think i have ever been so scared. Im excited and nervous too but sometimes you cant help but be afraid i've only been 13 for a month! sometimes i do wish that i has got to have a chance with the brace though

@abcmls123 i get it :/ im 13 and have a brace i know it seriously sucks, my friends don't understand, nobody else around me knows what i am going through and i still feel alone. i can't wear much of the latest fashions or anything and i get really fustrated when i can't bend down. Sometimes you just feel like giving up but mine was 40 degrees and in two months went down to 26 degrees. People who have to endure back braces a really strong people, just remind urself the reasons your doing it :)

I'm 13 I found out I had scoliosis in 2nd grade I'm in 8th grade now I don't really know what degree it is but mine is really huge people at school ask why are u wearing a pillow on ur back and some times make fun of me I love to play sports but when ever I stand up for like 10 to 20mins or more my back hurts so much it affects me to be able to stand for awhile run move and to get out of bed I got a brace in 4th grade but it really did hurt alot so I took it off alot too I only went to the the

I wear a backbrace when i was ten. :'( it was REALLY hard for me, I WAS scared all the time, my curve was 30, and after 2 weks, it was like 25, and that's fast progress so never give up, u r really strong if u have a backbrace u guys rock!

The test she took is what interest me the most in this video. Dr. Murthy (the female doctor) is my doctor and she has done amazing work. That practice is one of the only places where they prefer to seriously consider bracing before surgery, instead of just waiting until a patient is old enough for surgery. If it wasn't for her, I would be in surgery right now. Their bracing techniques have literally added decades before my back starts to interfere with my life.

@cjch100 you probably will it depends which surgery ask your doctors about it :) i had 5 surgeries and i can play sports i couldnt play physical contact sports for awhile and i can now but i have to be careful

@lovelifelovemusic97 i wouldnt like the brace (just my opinion) cos i have scoliosis i had 4 operations with growing rods and a fifth final fusion it was sore but well worth it in the end i had my operations in our ladys hospital for sick children in Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland. i'm 14 i had my surgery in march im perfect now though :) just keep smiling :D ps the best part is my scars they go all down my back i <3 showing them off :D

im 17 i was diagnosed with scoliosis very late (had it since i was 12 but nobody took me to the doctor) and i have 2 curves and my vertebras rotate I LOVE sports i do martial arts and dance, and i also like playing soccer the only problem is that my back hurts like hell every day and people dont understand... im afraid that if i get the surgery i wont be able to play sports anymore

aww,i wanted to take that test but im hispanic and my curve is 39 degrees. :/

@megzie1227 I am 14 and have a 53d bend. I wore a brace for 3 and a half years!!!! Tomorrow I am going in for my surgery. I am so scared. But watching all these videos really helped! I also met another girl my age, Elly, at my hospital and she is getting hers done the same day. All u need is support and courage! Good luck! Xx

i was diagnosed with scoliosis when i was seven. i am 13 years old and in the 7th grade and i have a 13 degree scoliosis. thats not the main problem. what my parents are most concerned about is my legs and how it makes me limp a lot. its very uncomfortable and my back hurts after every day of school. i got it from my dad. but we didnt notice it until this year when my legs started getting worse and i started to walk like him. :( but i dont wear a brace. :) may have to get surgery this summer.
