How to build a vertical teleboater: Vertical teleboaters are built in a 2x1 shaft straight down lengthwise north and south. To dig down safely, stand on the block opposite of the block you destroy; do not dig straight down. So, move to the other side, dig, move to the other side, dig, etc.. Place the first boat high enough that you can get from the top boat to the surface at least by jumping (not deeper than one block). Always place boats facing north, or else they will spawn oddly, often such that if entered, asphyxiation (drowning in a solid block) occurs. Stand at the back (southern block), middle (unnecessary) opposite of the side to place a boat. Place it by (right-)clicking the center of the block northern block. When a boat is dark/shadowed, that means it's into the wall so far that if entered and exit it to stand atop it, you will appear inside something solid and instantly begin being asphyxiated. This can be prevented by destroying the block two blocks above each boat, but is unnecessary. Space the boats by four blocks, vertically. Boats clip/touch up to three blocks, length-wise. Avoid moving the boats as much as possible so that they aren't shifted to a position that would cause asphyxiation. To continue digging once a boat has been placed, enter and exit it to stand atop it, destroy the block opposite the boat, move directly off the boat, destroy the block beneath the boat and another block below that, or get back on the boat and destroy the other block until you've destroyed enough blocks (two blocks deep) beneath the boat to continue digging without bumping into a boat.
I have a hard time choosing what to call this transportation technique, but I think I'll settle with the portmanteau "teleboater" (by Tyrannious) to define one chain of boats designed for "teleboatation".
To negate damage from any fall (jumping off the highest block), have one water block two blocks off the landing zone block. Isolate water using signs. Leaving two blocks of air below the water allows jumping back up into the water, which adds speed/momentum to surfacing. If you have two water blocks generated from one water spring/source block, the water below will flow downward, causing slower surfacing.
Alternative (poor-man's) landing (zone) cushion: A ladder piece (or two) two (and one) blocks (high) off the landing zone block. Avoid landing on the ladder.
Second alternative: lava (which actually cushions better than water).
I used default Snagit 9 for this. What should I use to record? Camtasia free trial (perhaps the full copy), FRAPS, WeGame, StreamMyGame.com, thestream.tv, ask other screencasters what they use, VHScreenCaptureDriver + ustream or livestream,

"Minecraft Boat Teleporters" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzBYC7n4g_E ) by Tyrannious, is apparently the first demonstration of "teleboatation".
"Minecarts Vs. Teleboaters" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne60xulBbfg ) is Tyrannious's hilarious follow-up video on the technique.

Update: A boat will NOT move towards its bow (front) when you boat-hop or "teleboat" (i.e., entering a boat directly from within another boat) because the problem was patched. Therefore, crooked boats (by rotation) will NOT move out of alignment faster by this "automatic boat movement". I DON'T recommend that when you place boats on level ground to travel horizontally, right-click so as to stand atop a boat after exiting by aiming lower, to avoid automatic boat movement because automatic boat movement has been patched.
If you can't record at a decent framerate, don't bother.

TUTORIAL PLEASE!

@LiLTiKeGaming I updated the description. The only iffy thing is the placement of a boat (where to stand and where to place) because it changed a bit since I last played Minecraft and I can't recall how exactly that I did it to test recently.
