We in Singapore also pushback using rear station, its juz our procedure & trained to do that. Unless its raining heavily & thunder will use/optioned the front station. But I still will push it using rear.

Dont worry, i know why. Because toll dnata syd do alot of pushing and towing so therefore using the rear of the tug helps when towing the aircraft. Also the cab has alot of blind spots, especially on the left and right sides so using the rear, minimises this. We have just got our new bliss fox tug here in perth and theres a reason why the guys over east push from the rear.

It is actually a safety thing having the tractor reversing on to the front aircraft. just in case the undercarraige gives way and kills somebody.

Dear Sir The answer to your question was answered by a captain of the crew I carried this morning 11/01/10,United 747-400, and that is it depends on the powertug driver as to how the pushback is done,I hope this answers your query.

Remember this aircraft is has its engines all four running to taxing speed as you can hear from the audio.

Why is he pushing it from the rear??? is he towing it? or does it have an automatic gear box at the front?

No i said, why is he pushing it from the rear?? rear of the pushback tug. I can understand maybe better visibility but personally i prefer to operate from the front.

I'm not quite sure of this reason why its performed this way,I will try to ask the captain next time I transfer the crew to the hotel which will be tomorrow,11/01/10.
