Not even this absolutely terrible, pitiful direction (Regie) and set can kill this wonderful music. Just minimize the window and enjoy.

This must be one of the world's best love duets

Woooow... this is like Liebestod on an acid trip. I literally had sensations of derealilzation when listening to this - it's like Liebestod on fast-forward playback, with all sort of WEIRD exclamations and ... it's like someone heard Liebestod and thought "hm, let's play this in double speed, just for fun", and then you listen to the original and discover that Wagner did that very thing himself already.
Wow. I'm speechless :D

kollo, salminen and schwarz are the big draw for me--i adore schwarz's fricka for boulez/chéreau--although i'm impressed with what i've heard of uta priew here. i don't much care for j. meier's voice, perhaps she's more convincing in the context of the whole performance..
i'm not crazy about this set for act II, but i love the quiet beauty of müller's liebestod. i think i'll be getting this one first, and then we'll see!
i'm torn between getting the ponnelle DVD and this one--i guess i will probably end up getting both. thank you for posting these! waltraud meier is just radiant in this.

Yeah, I'd recommend that you get both. With the Ponnelle DVD you get a more traditional production with some excellent singing (specially Kollo); with the Müller DVD you get a more abstract and visual production and a superb conduction by Barenboim. So, get both, they're worth it.
