Work on Poole's much-needed second harbour crossing has begun. Following a 20-month construction period the new Twin Sails Bridge will open to the public in early 2012.

The Twin Sails Bridge will be the first bridge of its type to be built and the world class design was chosen to symbolise the aspirations of the town.

Poole is proud of its maritime and industrial heritage and this is reflected in the world class design of the Twin Sails Bridge -- with its two triangular shaped lifting leaves symbolising the sails of a yacht.

The Twin Sails Bridge provides critical infrastructure for 26 hectares of brownfield land, one of the largest regeneration areas in the South West. Over the next 10 to 15 years, the regeneration is expected to deliver around 2,000 homes and create up to 5,000 jobs..
