Thousands of innocent men women and even children are kept in inhuman conditions in asylum centres and prisons all across europe. They are treated like criminals because they have tried to escape with their lives from their countries in the turmoil of war, wars created often by the so called superpowers of the world. In places like Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan refugees flee to the civilised western world seeking 'refuge'. Most of them end up in jail and in some cases sent back.
This piece is written and performed by Makmed the Miller, drawn on his own experiences in a floating prison ship for illegal aliens in northern europe.
the text:
I was a star of CCTV in a case of forsaken identity
Now I find myself all at sea
In a floating government facility
State piracy on the high seas
A metal box full of refugees
Like forgotten fish in a sardine can
Charlie Chan and Desperate Dan, they'll be shipping them
back to Kurdistan
They say time flies when youre driving a train
But time is endless when youre on the chain
See me, ID me, classify, crucify me, identify me
They fingered my prints and scanned my iris
cos a foreign body in the system is a virus
An NN entity a face in a frame
A mugshot on a beanslot with a number for a name
With a number for a name
Mr NoName wakes in an iron cell
An innocent man in an astral black hell
Surrounded by a timeless shell
With 50 mics of Seroquel
So the voices in his head get weaker
In a madhouse full of asylum seekers
Whose only crime is to have no papers
But out of here theres no escapers
A trap with no trap door down in a hole
Pressganged and chained with no jackrabbit parole
This human zoo where humanity ends
In the company of strangers who became my friends
The muslim brothers and the chinese crews
The russian droogs with black tatoos
Somali survivors escaped from the war
Is this what they were survivin for?
To be stuck in a tin can full of pain?
Then deported back to hell again.
They say time flies when youre driving a train
But time is endless when youre on the chain
