RIP Jett Travolta - 1992 to 2009 (Age 16).

Anonymous condolences to the Travolta family, and a short social education piece about seizures, the beliefs of Scientology, and psychiatric / anti-seizure medication.

----- TRANSCRIPT ------

It is with deep sadness that Anonymous notes the death of Jett Travolta, son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, reportedly as the result of a seizure. We extend our condolences to the family and friends, and to everybody whose life was touched by Jett. We shall not intrude upon your time of grief.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press - people of the Internet, and of the world!

While we caution you against drawing ugly conclusions about this very sad situation on the basis of insufficient evidence, as a result of speculation in the press, Anonymous websites have received many tens of thousands of views since news of the child's death was released. Website guests, apparently searching for information about Travolta's belief in Scientology, and perhaps for a more complete understanding of the organization's attitude of disbelief in the existence of disorders such as autism and epilepsy, have made clear the need for Anonymous to publish this bulletin, if only to answer some of these questions.

A seizure is a sudden disruption of the brain's normal electrical activity accompanied by altered consciousness and/or, other neurological and behavioral manifestations. For example, epilepsy is a condition characterized by recurrent seizures that may include repetitive muscle jerking commonly referred to as convulsions.

According to modern medical science, there are more than 20 different seizure disorders; one in ten Americans will have a seizure at some point during their lifetime; and at least 200,000 have at least one seizure a month. Again, according to modern medical science a combination of drugs may be needed to control some symptoms, but most patients who have seizures take one or more of the following psycho-pharmaceutical medications: phenytoin (Dilantin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), Phenobarbitol, primidone (Mysoline), valproic acid (Depekene), sodium valproate (Depakote and Depakon) Clonazepam (Klonipin), or ethosuximide (Zaronotin).

All of these drugs fall under Scientology's broad classification of "dangerous psychiatric drugs," are considered toxic by Scientologists, and are believed by them to remain in the body permanently.

By doctrine the use of psychiatric medication is forbidden to all Scientologists and reportedly these provisions apply to the minor children of Scientology families. Many former Scientologists have reported that they were expected or even ordered to cease taking medication for various disorders, including members who suffered from serious medical conditions such as epilepsy, Lyme disease, and even Grave's disease.

Scientology denies the existence of such conditions, and attributes their symptoms to other causes. Scientology claims that these symptoms can be alleviated by so-called "auditing sessions" utilizing a crude facsimile of a lie detector, a series of hours-long alternating exercises, lengthy sessions in dangerously hot saunas, and extremely large doses of vitamin tablets.

Cumulatively these procedures combine in what is known within Scientology as a "purification rundown" and are likely the "detoxification based on teachings from the Church of Scientology" which Kelly Preston credits in print as "helping improve" the quality and quantity of Jett's life.

Unfortunately, the disruption or absence of existing, medically demonstrable treatment regimes often means that participants in Scientology with such illnesses can suffer from recurrence or even intensification of their conditions, which can at times be dangerous for their health or even, in some cases, for those around them.

The consequences for a Scientologist who takes, or does not give up, psychiatric medication are many. Their beliefs specifically exclude anyone who has ever taken psychiatric medication from many parts of the religion, and those who have taken psychiatric drugs for any length of time may be excluded from practices such as auditing. Such persons are often also considered entirely unable to advance towards the state of 'clear'.

For this reason, Scientology considers psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies to be 'criminals', and 'an industry of death.'

As always;

We remain;

Anonymous.

  • Your points are valid, Christianly. But at the moment, Anonymous is all we have.

  • If you were a Scientologist, I could see you making much the same point about your own life's basis. Funny how that actually works out. Some people don't have anything to hold them up but for their "faith."

When I was a kid I saw "Equus," and no matter how much the guy who wrote it swears it's "just a straight drama" with no subtext, whether to fight the beliefs of Scientology seems much like Martin Dysart's predicament.

On the one hand you have someone who believes in some God (cont.)...

  • On the other hand you've got the psychiatrist who KNOWS what the kid believes isn't "typical" and resulted in blinding horses with a hoof pick, but who agonizes over whether he should morally use the tools of his trade to rob Alan Strang of his belief in SOMETHING, anything.. where as a rational man Dysart has none; envies his patient for his commitment to something.

Recently I find myself equally conflicted on the issue. "All we've got" isn't good enough of a reason to destroy "God."

  • It breaks my heart to see people feeling they need to knock others down to feel better about themselves.

One last thing, Scientology tried to pull all the wonderful things about other religions and this is what they preach. I just want people to know that.

  • I'm not at all sure that I can agree with your penultimate (next before last) sentence, but it did try - that I can see some of. Why, I would not venture to guess. That it is here and needs to step up as an institution is near undoubtable, but how to fit that within the "tech" I have no real clue.

Many religions refuse certain sorts of medical treatment. This video attempts to be dispassionate. I hope users found it to be so, at least when compared with a "usual" 'anonymous' propaganda piece.

  • No, Scientology pulled the ravings of a paranoid schizophrenic and turned them into "religious" doctrine.

  • Actually on that point you'll hear no argument from me. The real question is, "Yea, and what's to be done about it?"

That is the REAL political question here. Freedom of Speech vs. Freedom to metaphorically "Go to Hell" any way somebody sees fit.

'anonymous' love to apear as pushing an issue of freedom when for all the world, especially the longer this goes on, they appear to be the paternalistic, patronizing, anti-freedom zealots. Sad really. It began as such an apolitical process.

  • fuck you scientology and you dumbasses who worship the cult.

  • I have been diagnosed with epilepsy for about 15 years now and have been told it's unlikely to go away. Couple of years ago I considered joining staff, the Personnel Officer said my medication was fine (however I'd voiced uneasiness about going off medication) after hearing Tory Christman's account with this so-called church I'm convinced they'll say anything to get you on board so as to later gain control of you.

  • also I had a Dr of neurology tell me that seizure does cause death it is a secondary problem that causes death. Scientology does not believe in God or a God they only believe in self and you can only get to higher levels by either submitting to everything required or having alot of money to pay the organization when you so ? the organization you are punised severly in the long run education will help others stay away and not support

  • I said that family and caregivers have learned the signs and we have a pre seizure protocal now this works in the case of my daughter not to say it will work for everyone all cases are different I have researched scientology and found that they do believe that meds are not good I am not pointing fingers or judging have to walk in others shoes to really know very interesting book is messiah or madman written by L Ron Hubbard's son this is a controlling organization they take family and money away

  • Excuse me typo L Ron Hubbard

  • This video is well made I have a 23 year old daughter multi handicap with epilepsy she has petimal and grandmal seizures petmal since birth and grandmal since puberty she has been on seizure Meds since shortly after birth we have and always had a seizure protocol in place and rectal distat and family and care givers have been trained in this procedure parents and caregivers have used this protocol several times in controlling a seizure family and caregivers have come to recognize the signs that

  • My medicine has caused me to flop around on the floor before or get so confused that I can't tell left from right. I know what you mean, but desire is fire in the din, and it's difficult to combat once it turns physical. Unless the brain activity itself can be stimulated by something else, a person is going to be aggressive to stimulate. Take that away, and you'll get one stupid person or weird. We all adapted to our environments. You have to change reality, not merely alter perception wdrugs

  • The reason why I sent the video, November is epilepsy awareness month.

And perhaps, just perhaps. you would hold a

rally at a Church of Scientology to prostest

    Jett Travoltas unnecessary death.

It would be a great piece of ammo

    against Scientology.

I dont agree with Scientology i admire what you

do. Please help{? As a person with epilepsy

I dont have the luxory of remaining anonymous.

  • It's extrremly rare for a person with epilepsey to die from a seizure.

The Travoltas hurried to hush the details up, refused an autopsy, and quickly had him cremated.

The most logical conclusion, is that it is highly probbable that someone within the Travolta family killed him, and they blamed it on epilepsy instead.
