is the heads up display standard on all 04 6 series or is it an option ?

No , actually it's never been standard and still not , only about 20% of the 6's have heads up "HUD" if that. It's cool but with polarized sunglasses you cannot see it in the daytime.

Pretty reliable cars, maintenance is not overly expensive, specially if you can handle the task of oil changes , brakes DIY, just keep your receipts and a logbook of some type to associate them with the mileage, this way you will have complete service history without getting robbed by a service

If you cry about $90oil changes then there is no reason for you to buy the car. buy a Kia then.

unless ur a bmw certified i dont see how you can even change the oil. I owned a 07 x5 and trust me even if i take it to the shop that is not certified in bmw, they will not be able to do it yes just for oil change. If buy bmw, buy it new so u get the free maintenance or least it ( which most bmw drivers did) new so you will be worry free. Buying a old bmw will put a hole in your wallet, they reliable but still need basic maintenance that cost alot of money. Normal oil will run you about $90
