Sharon Darling is president and founder of the National Center for Family Literacy. She was among over 30 leading experts in cognition, developmental psychology, education, technology, and game design who attended a meeting on August 21 at Sesame Workshop to develop learning goals and brainstorm game concepts for an R&D project to explore the potential of video games to develop foundational knowledge-building skills in elementary age children with the support of adults and other mentors. The partners on the project are The Joan Ganz Cooney Center, Tracy Fullerton at the Electronic Arts Game Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California (GIL), and Susan Neuman at the University of Michigans School of Education and the Learning Science. The project is supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcastings Ready to Learn Initiative.
