The microlights were probably flying on a weekend, when the RAF are home for tea and medals :)
Seriously, I understand what you mean and it scares me to even think of confronting a Tornado doing 400kts, whether it'd be at 50 or 2000ft. But you don't own the sky in the same way that I don't either. It's nobody's racing track, so let's just keep our eyes open if we fly low. If only we could avoid a speck at 500kt closure rate... :)

Our jets have been in that area at 50 to 100 feet. That would scare the crap out of both you and us.

Yes but soft sand in places would be a definite problem. Risky flying at best. Nearly went in twice on that flight. I like the rush ;-)
