American didn't invent the term soccer. Look it up, its an English term. The full name of football is Association Football, and rugby is called Rugby Football. The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as an Oxford "-er" abbreviation of the word "asSOCiation" and Rugby was nicknamed Rugger. Obviously one didnt stick, one did and travelled to the United States under that name. Now we are all a little smarter and can shut up.
