Two points: he apparently threw an incredible (for its day) fastball. And notice the sleeve on his pitching arm: it's loose and dangling, hiding both the sidearm release point and the ball itself.

Every bit of film I see of Johnson, he never follows through with his right leg. How could he possibly get any speed on the ball and not throw his arm off. Bad form.

Bad form or not. He obviosly had speed and didnt throw his arm out. He second only to Cy Young in wins.

finally at 53 one sees the real speed of the delivery. Johnson had outrageously good numbers.
