This is my 7th fight which took place on 6-6-09 in St.Louis, MO. The weight class was 185. I weighed in at around 183 the day before and was at 194 by fight time. My opponent was 2-1 at the time as Muay Thai fighter and 1-0 as an MMA fighter. The fight was prelim fight for the TBA Muay Thai Classic Championship belt.
The Fight: Fighting this guy came as a total surprise. I had known him from him coming up to Vaghi's before to train BJJ. All I can say is thank God we were doing Muay Thai and not BJJ, I'm not a big fan of being choked unconscious. I found out the day before we'd be fighting at weigh-ins and my buddy Art thought he would be fighting him originally so he'd already watched some video and gave me his thoughts. When the fight started I thought he'd want to clinch with me more, but he stayed away and wanted to throw more hands. I was fine with exchanging as I'd been working hands and staying tight the entire training camp. I put a few leg kicks into him to try and soften up the leg, however, he had a fantastic sweep of one of them. Grabbing the leg off a kick and dumped me head over heals onto my ass. I actually laughed when I hit the ground because it was so clean. After that though I started working on getting the opening I wanted. When it appeared I throw my left knee has hard as I could into his rib cage. At first I didn't think it'd be enough to do the job, but sometimes ribs are funny like that. It takes a breath or two to feel the damage (been there before). When he went down I was hoping he'd be done and when he got up I could see the pain on his face so I figured he was. Was a good fight and he's a great guy. Hoping to do some training with him and his team before the next round of fights.
Next video is coming shortly, stay tuned!
