A religion from GOD must address ALL aspects of his Creation.
Humans, who can chose to obey/disobey need a messages. This message personal to every single one of his creatures. to guide him to HIS social structure.
Abraham, Moses, JESUS and Mohamad (PBBUThem) built an alternative social structures for their believers, from materialistic based society, to Society built on belief of the day after. For this Politics in Islam is basic to it.
What is that if not politics for the social level

"Islamic Chaplin.."? Anyone that uses such a term should be banned from publicly speaking on Islam. If you cant be bothered to even learn what the basic terms are, ie 'Imam' etc, why would we listen to you, on the subject at all? You wanna get deep on the subject? nah..I dont trust your knowledge level.. Its like a carpenter not even knowing what a basic tool is called, I wouldnt be using that carpenter anytime soon.

I would like to respond to the comment that "Amina Wadud is speaking about the Islam she wishes for, not what really is." I understand the sentiment of the author, but I want to say that Amina is not the only one who wishes for that Islam. It is not a private fantasy. Many young Muslims share her vision, and "what really is" can, and usually does, change. Change is often disorienting and even frightening. Thank you for writing. i think when he says muslims, he is talking about us, the sunna, orthodox muslims, when we state something it slips our minds that cults n sub cults of islam exist, eventhough the sunnah don't believe any of such cult to be islamic, or muslim.
