The reason why he didn't get up the sunken fast enough was the probes blocking them...

might have done better if he had an overlord scouting the mins inside the base so he could drill the probes and get the lings through

the neutral creep is there so that zerg can also defend in the choke with out having to place a hatchery there
both terran and protoss wall in/cannon up that choke its a balance for zerg that can allow offensive moves
also if the terran or protoss are so inclined they can just take out the sunken and the creep will recede to allow them to build there
