Arguably the strongest Best Actor year in history, to say nothing of the Best Picture category. Cogent cases could be made for Finch, De Niro, Stallone, and Holden. Haven't seen Giannini's performance but how could it not have been great to be put in this group.

I'm a great admirer of Finch. I think he should have won for Sunday Bloody Sunday five years earlier rather than for this. He was very good in Network but I thought Holden and De Niro deserved it more.
I don't mean to sound disrespectful here but I seriously doubt that Finch managed to say ALL of that to his wife whilst dying from a heart attack.

A bit of l pokerfacing wouldn't have gone amiss there, Sly, rather unprofessional. Delighted Finch won, Network is one of the greatest films I've ever seen and Finch's performance is right up there even though he doesn't get a lot of screen time.

If anyone has seen Network, particularly the scene when Peter Finch comes in from the rain to do his broadcast, you will know why he won this award. His acting is utterly superb. Enough said.
