This was a 'Soldiers in Time' Event held in the Fall of 2009 where I was interviewed by the local news channel about my grandparents history at Ft. Moultrie and especially the significance there about the Coastal Artillery. My grandfather was part of the 263rd Coastal Artillery Regiment which was a National Guard Unit of SC that was mobilized to protect our eastern coasts of possible German U-Boat threats. He was a 90mm gunner.
As fate would have it, my grandmother joined the WAC (Women's Army Corps) and was based at Ft. Moultrie within the 4th Services Command as a Light Vehicle Operator in the Motor Pool. By Sept. of 1944 both were married there in Charleston in Uniform.
As you'll see me in the interview, I do several Living Histories along the east coast representing the 263rd Coastal Artillery, which was within the 4th Coastal District. Everything I'm wearing is identical to what he wore in 1943 in that same exact place I was standing. You'll see photographs of him and my grandmother in the video which shows the type of Uniforms they wore during the time period.
Enjoy!
