@bongnbud: I don't know where YOU get your info from, but the Mark Donohue who won the 1972 Indy 500 and drove for Roger Penske, died from injuries suffered in a testing accident prior to the Austria GP. I don't know of any Indy-car fatalities at Ontario Motor Speedway, but I know that Joe Leonard suffered career-ending leg injuries in an accident there.

I Dont know where other people get their info from? But i can tell you this!!,..Mark Donohue R.I.P., the Indy car driver i saw, was killed in a horrible crash during qualifying at Ontario Motor speedway in So Cal. during the California 500 In the 70's. The track is long gone, but the memories will never fade.

The accident didn't kill Donohue. It was the brain tumor he was diagnosed with long before the accident. That's why Donohue came out of retirement. He knew he was on borrowed time.

@afannell Jack Brabham won the F1 world championship in a car of his own design baring his name, no one, not eeven Bruce McLaren managed that, McLaren is the only one to come close. Mark Donohue might have been a GOOD driver/engineer, but F1 is the bench mark, no matter what North Americans might argue, that he never won.

A haunting video when you know the eventual outcome. How we all wish it could be different!

Jack Brabham was actually the only driver/builder to win a F1 championship in a car of his own design baring his name, perhaps bruce McLaren might have, but he died, just like Donohue here. Thing is though, theres been others asside from these guys to try, but on Jack did it. I am sure he was a brilliant driver and engineer, but I doubt he could combine those skills into a F1 championship as easy as people commenting here seem to think

I saw him race many times. Not "greatest racedriver ever," BUT CLEARLY the best racedriver-engineer ever. I believe if he and Penske had entered F1 when he was younger, with their combined talents they'd have done whatever it took as always and eventually he'd be winning.

would have been better in english

Both Mark Donohue & Natasha Richardson had similar head injury and both appear to be find until the next day the both and several headace and died!
the way he died was eerily similar to how Natasha Richardson died recently. Whe you've been in a wreck and feel any head pain at all, get checked out ASAP!
