Rare Vinyl #5
"For Coltrane"
from the '81 album "Duke's memories"
Recorded on july 6th 1981 live at Tempodrom Theater, Berlin.
Abdullah Ibrahim Dollar Brand, piano
Carlos Ward, sax
Rachim Ausur Sahu, bass
Andrej Strobert, drums
...from the LP cover:
"Dollar Brand generously provides us with music which is powerfully original and colorful. His talent and pride bear witness to the glory of a jazz which he is regenerating at its most vital sources."
@revolutionarywarfare this is just a hunch, but the composition of his which I'd think of as having the 'hypnotizing piano loop' would be Bra Joe from Kilimanjaro. There are various versions, but one I know best opens the long improvisation from Copenhagen released as African Piano on Enja.

Well my friend, thanx for that.I'll tell you what, no point the flashy ridiculous effects. The vinyl, the record player and the jacket are enough. One don't need more when one really love music

It sounds like an Improvisation on Coltrane's version of "Lover where can you be".

@revolutionarywarfare
Maybe it is The Pilgrim which is on the Good News From Africa album. But having said that, it's not a song it's piano and double bass. But it is very hypnotic.
