The 2005 hurricane (Wilma) that hit Cancun, Mexico picked up a ferry boat and placed it on land next to a house. As the ferry sustained little damage, the locals were working for months trying to move it back to the water. We vacationed there at Christmas 2005 & watched the process of 2 tug boats pulling the ship. They had built a dam around the boat, pumped water in & now was shoving it with a bulldozer that had tires on its blade to cushion the shove. After days of trying, the ferry finally moved many feet, to the delight of the audience. There were local people traveling from around the peninsula to see the ship. Others were selling tacos and candy bars to the onlookers. We had to take a bus and a taxi to get there every day for 3 days.

  • Im very happy to see this video because I know the man who rescued the vessel, he has spoken with me about how they managed to put her back on the sea.We work together at the same shipping company and he has a lot of videos and pictures about this event.

  • @captsparrow27 It was neat to be there to see it. Folks came from all over Mexico to watch. Vendors came to sell the crowds traditional Mexican food. It was so non-touristy, I loved it! Wish I had a better camera, but them's the breaks. I would love to see his videos! Maybe he can post to youtube and we can link them! The internet is making us a global community.

  • That was a fucking huge huricane if it can move that!

  • I wish I had a better video camera for this event. We were there for a week on vacation & much of Cancun was destroyed & not yet rebuilt. Here you saw a house, then a ferry boat, then a house, like someone picked up the boat and set it in between them. The workers had been working for many months trying to move the ferry. I was there when they finally moved it a few feet. But my camera could only take 15 second videos...

  • So why didn't you take a 15 second video then? I wanted to see how they were moving it, but that was way to quick.

  • It is what it is. 2005. WAY before youtube. There were 2 tugboats pulling it from way out in the water with ropes and a bulldozer with a tire on it pushing it. It was really something to see!
