Pittsburgh was a primarily industrial city, but it certainly looks nothing like Detroit.
Could it be the Demographics?
I mean Pittsburgh is one of the Whitest big cities in the Country.

Unions of course go too far, especially when they are supported by the government, a thing I have always been against. But to simply say, the Unions did it, is ignorant. Is a Westclox clock still made in the USA? No it is not, and the last place they were made was in the south with none union labor. There is something else going on that is making our manufacturing leave the country. I would look the direction of corporate greed and government interference, the latter being the biggest player.
