U.S.A. Canvas
Nicholas O'Neal Blume

I am continuously painting a nonstop line around the U.S.A.. Inside "Tank" I am a brush controlled by the "Life Cast Game" audience plotting an "Evolving Symbol Set" around America. Interlocking painting, digital media, and interactive performance installation distorts the divide between audience and artist. This distortion is used to attract thoroughly enthralled audiences toward exploring ways to cope with oil depletion.

"Tank" is a Jeep with a 6ft water tank on top filled with water and pigments at rivers, lakes, and oceans as the nonstop line is painted. The world becomes the canvas as tubes leading from the water tank utilize tires as brushes. The non-archival paint absorbs into streets and sidewalks washing away in rain. Points in the line are sustained because of hidden, clear, resin time capsules preserving blood, flesh and hard drives with documented brain functioning, body maps, and art. Reminiscent of "Self-Immolations", "Lady Liberty" and Houdini, presentations of "Self-Baptism" illuminate the water tank demonstrating efficient water conservation and collection. "Self-Baptism" involves lighting myself on fire on the 6ft tall water tank symbolizing inspiration, followed by painting underwater symbolizing creating, and finally escaping the water tank libation representing the renewal of the cycle. On the edge of the Jeep's roof a clear, plastic, wrap box is created, painted, and then lit on fire while musicians play inside. The Jeep's projector makes "Tank" a drive-in theater.

In 1984 a conservative family created me in Georgia. This inspires a "Life Cast Game" website and cell phone app interactively documenting painting of the line with 24/7 recordings and live broadcasts. Reimbursable points are purchased then wagered on any aspect of "U.S.A. Canvas". Audiences control collection and painting of water mediums, how long fire consumes me and what I paint underwater. They control creation of windmill, waterwheel, and bike generators from car parts. Audiences condition me blindly to one of 100 different stimuli by manipulating my eating, sleeping, high and low frequency sounds, working, and music. They also manipulate installations in galleries integrating mobile live video, paintings, sculptures and music.

The route of "Tank" is an "Evolving Symbol Set" deciphered by the audience. Similar to Austin Osman Spare and Matthew Barney, the symbols existentially describe evils in our dystopia. Glyphs are defined by number, name, text, drawing, painting, digital media, interactive performance installation, physical action, aroma, flavor, mathematical formula, musical dictation, place, color, dystopian evil and occult theory. The symbols are documented with films incorporating animations of surrealistic digital collages realistically painted on canvases made from remains of installations.

Support gained from "U.S.A. Canvas" will allow me to continuously paint a peace sign around the world. To do this I will make "Tank" seaworthy.
