i justed talked to Dick yesterday at the Kansas City expo, really cool guy and very motivational. It really gives this video some depth after talking to him. Oh yeah, and got a PR too!

Can you imagine how much of a bad-ass you would feel like if you were running with thousands of people on either side, hundreds of bikers following you, cops in your shorts, in one of the most presidious races in the world, and you knew that you were in the midst of a complete and total self-sacrafice? I know they were primarily focused on the actual racing of the race, but a deep part of them surely was reveling in the moment.

In 1984, Carlos Lopes beat the best marathoners in the world, including the Kenyans and Ethiopians who flew to Los Angeles in airplanes, in the Olympic marathon. In 1972, Frank Shorter beat all the Africans and all the Europeans and if orange day glo skin colored Martians had flown in on spaceships, Shorter would have kicked their asses to. Skin color and bloodlines have nothing to do with who wins the marathon, in any generation.

I do not think that the motorcycles kepr Dick from beating Alberto, but why did they have to be so close at the very end. I do not see the reason for. I hate messing people when I race. They do not understand that you are in a great pain and struggle all the way up to the finish. They are not runners, that is why they do it. Great race though.
