In spring semester at IUP in the MA TESOL program, I took ENGL 694, Observation in Teaching English. One of the assignments was a group teaching demonstration. Instead of using real students, we taught each other the lessons we developed. It was an effective way to learn about our teaching styles; for some of us it was the first time we looked at ourselves as teachers. We used the material from this video to analyze ourselves using observation techniques we learned during the course.
Each of us took a turn to teach a specific element of the lesson on class discussion. Featured as teachers in the video are, in order of appearance, Handoyo Puji Widodo (Indonesia), Karissa J. Kilgore (U.S.), and Nazira Kazakbaeva (Kazakhstan). Acting as students in the video are Kayla Whipkey (U.S.), Jes Gardner (U.S.), and Bahramand Shah (Pakistan).
The video uploaded here was processed and pieced together from longer segments of the actual teaching time. The software used to create this final product was iMovie 06 and iMovie 08 on a Macbook.
