Paul Simon - Take Me to the Mardi Gras

Lyrics:

C'mon take me to the Mardi Gras
Where the people sing and play
Where the dancing is elite
And there's music in the street
Both night and day

Hurry take me to the Mardi Gras
In the city of my dreams
You can legalize your lows
You can wear your summer clothes
In the New Orleans

And I will lay my burden down
Rest my head upon that shore
And when I wear that starry crown
I won't be wanting anymore

Take your burdens to the Mardi Gras
Let the music wash your soul
You can mingle in the street
You can jingle to the beat of Jelly Roll
Tumba, tumba, tumba, Mardi Gras
Tumba, tumba, tumba, day

Mm------------

  • I remember when I went to Dallas after Katrina. The entire time, I dreamed of being back home in NOLA. This song ran through my head, as it was getting close to Mardi Gras time. Needless to say, I said see ya Dallas, and returned to The Big Easy. I made it just in time for Mardi Gras.

  • Music of the 70s ,, the greatest.

  • I'm born and raised in New Orleans and, no you don't hear this tune played much associated with the Mardi Gras season. But, since I'm stuck here in Memphis, with the NOLA blues again, this tune kinda catches the essence of what Mardi Gras means to me. I don't care what Paul looks like. After a couple of drinks, I can REALLY get down in my cups if I hear this tune. So, be nice, or send me a damned King Cake! ( For lent, I will accept a decent shrimp Po-boy)

  • I lived in NOLA and never heard this song played there Mardi Gras or otherwise....btw, doesn't P Simon look pretty rough with that face lift of his??
