Community performance of the traditional "Vejigantes" from Loiza Aldea and Ponce in Puerto Rico. Participants are non-professional dancers who study Spanish at Drake University in Des Moines, IA.
The music is by William Cepeda and Grupo Afro Boricua's 1998 CD titled "Bombazo".
The choreography is by: Victor Cedeño. In this dance, Dr. Guenaga is called to heal "La Vieja's" heartache. "El Vejigante" takes center stage eating coconut and licking its fingers. Other Vejigantes chant and respond to the music chorus. Finally, Dr. Guenaga arrives, and with the energy received from the Vejigantes and captured in his maracas, Dr. Guenaga heals La Vieja's heart.
