Lol, I tried to do that when I was in Tokyo in 2006. But the Tokyo residents don't seem to be as interested in accepting umbrellas from a foreigner.
I had 3 I managed to give away 1, but that was to a little girl and her mother who were running past me in pouring rain.

oh well, I feel sad that I wasn't one of those who got the umbrellas :( but I guess these Damacy guys were being racists and didnt give any to the poor gaijin living here and suffering!
