Okay, I know you won't believe this, but I found another old Edison reel of my great-grand father playing the banjo, as well as this biography-

Hezekiah Eurastus Anderton, born Feb. 30, 1863, in Dimwit, Mo., to Eliza Dultie (father unknown), adopted by Hautain Claude Anderton, Mar 12, 1870, Disowned June 15, 1870. Graduated St. Marvin Reform School for Boys, May 1883. Enlisted in US Navy, Mar 1885; deserted. Hired as a Livestock Caretaker in Cheyenne, Wy.; dismissed for "conduct unbecoming a sheep herder." Played banjo for Dingling Bros. Circus, 1886-1894, of which he said "what a great source of gut strings." Increasing alcoholism led to his termination; last heard of teaching banjo in a Mennonite township near Versailles, Mo.

I'm just as proud as I can be of my distinguished ancestor. How fortunate to have a film short of his inimatible banjo stylings. Hezekiah, we hardly knew ye.

  • I find these "old" performances extremely entertaining and it's good that you are spotlighting the origins of banjo playing. Good job, keep 'em coming.

  • @Sbrown8218 Thanks, that's what I'm trying to do. Present an early banjo style, in an "old" format.

  • These films are cool. Unfortunately ever time I watch them, a thumbnail for a video of George Clooney lip syncing "Man of Constant Sorrow"pops up in suggested videos. Clooney is such a tool. That scene just ruined a great old song for me.

  • @oldcremona I've enjoyed them for some time now. Cannot believe the ignorance of some. Oh well.

  • fuck this stupid shit

  • fake and u know it is.

theree was no sound in films in the 1800s and it was black and white

  • Fake ass misleading title, but the banjo playing was awesome and the elaborate and humorous description makes up for it, besides the cool hat, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned!

  • I make this old time video anytime I want....looks good though. what program did you use??

  • @gitrpicker jesus, have ever heard of something called a "joke"? No? You ought to try it sometime, it's good for you.

  • Well you are all wrong 'cos it was my granpappy that filmed this and I have the original 16mm film to prove it, and anyone that don't believe Hitler played the banjo needs to listen to a CD called "Deep South and Shining" by Hitler and the Banjo Boys, he was also famous for starting wars
