"A Poetic Response to the G20" took place at Waterloo Town Square on July 1st.
We think it's important now that we, as poets, use our words to support friends and fellow protesters who were intimidated, arrested, abused, made to feel unsafe in their own city, made to feel criminalized for gathering in peaceful protest, made to feel fearful about expressing dissent, and who worried about friends and loved ones. It's important to share the messages of the over 10,000 protesters, who were there to advocate for issues ranging from immigrant and refugee rights, to women's rights to reproductive justice, to labour rights, to freedom for Tibet, to environmental justice.....messages we fear were lost.
We know that there is more to what took place this weekend than what the media is showing.
It is important to share with our home community of Kitchener-Waterloo WHY we went to Toronto to protest.
Ain't no power like the power of the poets, and the power of the poets don't stop!
