Formed in 1983, Alcatrazz was a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal metal band mostly remembered as the launching pad for young six-string speed demon Yngwie Malmsteen. The band featured,

Graham Bonnet (Vocals)
Yngwie Malmsteen (Lead Guitar)
Gary Shea (Bass)
Jan Uvena (Drums)
Jimmy Waldo (Keyboards)

Their debut record, No Parole From Rock 'N' Roll, was the bands most successful release and gave way for Yngwie Malmsteen to begin his solo career in 1984. His replacement, fellow virtuoso six-stringer Steve Vai, went on to join David Lee Roth to much success as well.

  • How I wish Yngwie still played like this. He had so much more feel back then.

  • @greggl61 Well you have to remember "feel" is subjective. No one can actually know what the player has on their minds, haha. But yeah, i know what you mean. Though he did play some similar melodic stuff on his albums through out his career, just maybe not as much as some would like. Like Gary Moore who did a complete 180, and became a blues player instead of hard rock.

  • me too.....great post

  • your welcome, and there's more tunes to come soon.

  • Some of the best vocals ever. Tons of sustained F#'s above tenor high C... ridiculous.

  • fuck tabs ima learn this by ear...

  • ouch those pants!

  • Great song,Great singer and Great Guitar Solo..2:27 amazing Blackmore's Lick

  • Sick vocal.....

  • This is a killer track!!! I used smoke weed and try and play it in my room. I can rip, but Yngwie is beyond me!!

  • @greggl61 main issue is that in the beginning others were making the final decisions on what needed to be played where, which takes were going to be kept, etc. In other words the engineers and more importantly the producers actually had some input, and helped "calm him down" so to speak playing wise. after he became a huge hit and went on his own, he answered to nobody, which is great, but it would be nice for someone to have the balls to say to him "play some fewer notes and make 'em count!"

  • @CuriosityRoads And even more impressive is that they are hit by baritone, fucking incredible!

  • @greggl61 / I feel the same way. You figure that as a player gets older and more mature they learn how to slow down and milf the notes more and phrase better with age. It's the opposite for Yngwie as he has gotten even faster on guitar as he has gotten older. I still love his playing but I do miss these days!
