Bones my GSD in May of 2006 under went the Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) is a surgical procedure that removes the femoral head and neck from the femur. FHO surgery is performed to alleviate pain. It is a salvage procedure, reserved for condition where pain can not be alleviated in any other way. Today we continue to strengthen his back legs using a water treadmill (only 2 water treadmill in the state of Alaska). This is the second time Bones was in the treadmill...Thanks to Robert and Lynn for helping Bones while I shot the video!!
Ada boy Bones ! My 100 lb GSD had both of his Cruciate Ligaments fail. Then when he was 8 me developed Degenerative Mylopathy. A year into this disorder left him unable to stand at all. It is amazing to know that a dog is still capable of swimming with only two paddles. I used a life jacket at first and found that he swam better without it. It was very good exercise. He has passed on now and it seems that the special needs dogs are the most dear to you and the hardest ones to say good-bye to.
